Alumni Player Profile:
Jay Witta, Class of 1987

What year(s) did you play high school hockey at Minnetonka?
1985 (JV), 1986 (Varsity) and 1987 (Varsity).

What Minnetonka High School hockey moment is most memorable for you?
Well, there are a few...Playing in two Section 6 Championships at the old Met Center in front of 15,000 people for sure is number one, but being named Assistant Captain and All Conference my Senior year were huge thrills as well.

Did you play college or junior hockey after MHS?
Yes, I played at St. Cloud State in 1987 - our first year Div. 1 Independent. Made the squad as a defenseman, but opted to go play Junior A Tier hockey in Humboldt, Saskatchewen - Hung up the blades after 2 months.

Where do you currently reside?
I live just past Excelsior, in Shorewood with my wife Sara, and 4 little boys, Bennett, Brody and twins Brooks and Griffin.

What do you do for a living?
I own a advertising/graphic design company in Eden Prairie called JWDA, Inc (www.jwda.com). All 8 of us at JWDA are hockey fanatics.

How has playing hockey as a lifelong sport helped you to become a better person?
Well, to be honest, I think sports in general help mold kids/young adults into better human beings. Hockey has taught me about hard work, perseverance, optimism, sportsmanship, winning, losing and being part of a team. All attributes I still use in my everyday work and personal hurdles.

Who do you think is the Greatest Hockey player to come out of Minnetonka High School?
Wow, I may get in trouble for this one...so I am going to play it safe...That whole 1985 State Tournament team was awesome...They had 4 NHL draft picks and 10 of the players went on to play Div. 1 and 3 college hockey. My Senior year line mate Tim Hanus ranks right up there, as does Jeff Kuzara, Dale Roehl, Justin McHugh, Jeff Callinan, Steve Aronson, just too many...It's one thing Tonka Hockey should be proud of, our program has turned out some very good hockey players.
