Brian Urick - Varsity Head Coach
Brian Urick has been an assistant coach in the Minnetonka High School program for six seasons. This will be Coach Urick's first year as head coach. Brian is a 1995 graduate of MHS. He is one of the all time leading scorers in school history and he earned All Metro and All State honors during an outstanding high school career. Brian was a member of Minnetonka's state tournament team in 1994. At the end of his senior year, Urick was a drafted by the Edmonton Oilers. Brian went on to earn a scholarship to the University of Notre Dame where he starred for the "Irish" as a four year starter. Joe Urick - Varsity Assistant Coach
Joe Urick will join the varsity staff as an assistant coach helping with the team's defense and special teams in the 2007-08 campaign. Joe has a wealth of hockey experience at a variety of levels. He has had three stints as a JV coach; Minnetonka 92-93 & 2001-06 as well as at Simley High School. AS a Minnetonka resident, he has also been actively involved as a youth coach in MYHA, coaching Squirt A's, Pee Wee A's over an 8 year period. Joe is a 1968 graduate of UW-Stout where he was a 3 year letter winner in football as well as 4 years in golf where he was Captain and MVP. As a native "Ranger" growing up in Virginia MN, he was a three sport star in hockey, football and golf. As a veteran coach in both youth hockey and high school Joe provides the coaching staff with a diverse and experienced approach to the game. Joe can be contacted at jwurick@hotmail.com.
Steve Aronson - Varsity Assistant Coach
Steve Aronson joins the Minnetonka High School Program this year as an assistant coach. Steve will be responsible for coaching the forwards on the varsity team. Steve served as an assistant coach for the University of Saint Thomas in 2006-2007 and is a 1996 graduate of MHS. Steve played four years of hockey at the University of Saint Thomas where he was a 3 time first team All American, an academic All American, the 2000 NCAA Division III player of the year, as well as the all-time leading scorer in the history of MIAC. Upon graduating Steve was the first player ever signed to a professional contract with the Minnesota Wild. Steve played three years professionally in the AHL, IHL, ECHL and in Europe. Mike Johnson - Varsity Goalie Coach
Mike Johnson joins the Minnetonka High School Program this year as the goalie coach. Mike is also involved in the youth program as the head coach of the Bantam A team. Mike is a '98 graduate of MHS. While at MHS he earned All Metro and All State during an outstanding career. Mike then went on to earn a scholarship to the University of Massachusetts - Amherst where he was a 3-time all academic team member. Mike resides in Waconia with his wife and newborn. Paul Olson - JV Head Coach
Paul returns as a JV head coach for his 7th season. He is a 1993 graduate of Spring Lake Park High School where he was a 3 sport athlete. A 4 year letter winner in tennis, 3 years in soccer and 2 years in hockey. Paul graduated from UMD in 1998 and has had experience coaching softball, golf, soccer, tennis and hockey. Paul is an avid runner, having completed 11 marathons. As head JV coach, Paul contributes with approachable personality and diverse coaching background. Matt Breen - JV Assistant Coach
Matt Breen is in his first season as a hockey coach for the Skippers. Matt has coached freshmen football for three seasons at Minnetonka and coached Skipper baseball and Excelsior legion baseball for the past two years. He is in his third year as a math teacher at Minnetonka High School. Matt graduated from Willmar High School, where he lettered in football, hockey, and baseball. Coach Breen was a three-time all-conference hockey player. He went on to play football and graduate from St. John's University. Matt resides in Victoria.
